This scheme, launched by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) on Antyodaya Diwas (25th September 2014), is part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). It aims to diversify the income sources of rural families while supporting the career aspirations of young individuals. With roots in the Aajeevika Skills programme and the ‘Special Projects’ component of the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY), DDU-GKY continues to provide skilling and placement opportunities that enhance employability and contribute to economic growth.
DDU-GKY plays a significant role in empowering rural youth by equipping them with valuable skills and facilitating employment opportunities. Since 2014, CTED has been a Project Implementation Agency (PIA) for this initiative across multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh. It collaborates with various state rural livelihood missions such as UPSDM, MP-DAY-SRLM, RSLDC, BRLP-Jeevika, UKSRLM, MSRLM, and HPSRLM.
Benefits to candidates are in the form of free training, free uniform, free course material, free lodging and board in case of residential programs, reimbursements of expenses in non-residential programs, post placement salary top-ups every month for 2-6 months.
